Product overview

Goods Elevators: working principle & applications

A goods elevator is a lift built for material, not for the public. The car is a strong steel box on a reinforced frame, travelling on rails and driven by a geared traction machine or a hydraulic power pack, with ropes and counterweight sized to the rated load.

Typical duty is trolleys, pallets, drums and cartons moved between floors during a shift. For that reason the construction concentrates on strength: thick floor plate, angled corner protection, wide door openings and a drive that holds levelling accurately while a loaded trolley rolls on and off.

Operation is kept simple and robust. Push-button or key-switch control with a PLC or microprocessor board suits an operator-attended lift, and finishes are chosen for durability — powder-coated mild steel as standard, with stainless steel available where hygiene matters.

Ideal for

Factories, warehouses, godowns, workshops, restaurants, retail back-of-house and commercial buildings.

Safety & standard compliance

Safety is never optional

  • Governor & safety gear

Over-speed governor with progressive safety gear stops the car on the guide rails if it exceeds rated speed.

  • Overload sensor

Load-weighing device prevents departure and sounds a buzzer when the rated load is exceeded.

  • Interlocked doors

Landing doors are mechanically and electrically interlocked, so the car cannot move with any door open.

  • Emergency alarm & lighting

Battery-backed alarm bell and emergency light keep users reassured and visible during a power cut.

  • Final limit & buffers

Terminal slowdown, final limit switches and oil or spring buffers protect the pit and overhead.

Goods Elevators

Questions we get asked

Can people ride in a goods elevator?

Not unless it is certified as a goods cum passenger lift. A goods lift is for material and is normally operated by a trained attendant.

How do I choose the right capacity?

Add the weight of the heaviest loaded trolley or pallet and its handler if one will ride, then add a safety margin. Our engineer confirms this during the survey.

Which is better for goods: traction or hydraulic?

Traction suits frequent use and taller buildings; hydraulic suits low-rise, heavy loads with lower headroom. We will recommend one after reviewing your building.
